New group in Quinte! RR&B: Rhythm, Reverie & Blues

Vocalist, Elaine A. Small, and pianist ‘Elton Tom’ Dietzel, both of Belleville, have joined up with trumpeter Doug Taylor of Wellington and bassist Doug Wicken of Picton, to form a new group. They made their debut performance this past solstice, June 21, at “Night Kitchen Too,” at the Pinnacle Playhouse Theatre in Belleville, where, much to the delight of the audience, they created a five minute tranquil and moving rendition of Gershwin’s classic, “Summertime.”

What’s in a name? Rhythm, Reverie & Blues represents not only a style of music, but more than that, a new attitude to performing itself where music and language combine to create a reverie—a poetic image created by words and music which triggers our memory and transports us to a timeless realm, be it the far past, the present or a hopeful future. Through the power of reverie, triggered by a familiar song, the audience may relive their own memories and concurrent emotions--as well as the performers who participate in creating a memorable musical experience for all.

A sample of the Rhythm, Reverie & Blues style can be experienced on Saturday afternoon, September 13, at the John M. Parrott Gallery, 254 Pinnacle Street, (third floor) from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. While the group plans to perform several songs from Elaine’s recently released CD, ‘I’ll Be Seeing You,’ produced by Brian Barlow, they will also be featuring other tunes which make up the timeless standards of The Great American Songbook, 1950s-1970s-- classic songs that continue to be performed and enjoyed by each new musical generation-- so popular that they refuse to die....

So, kick off the Fall season by enjoying this new group; mingle with your ‘summer-lost’ friends as you peruse the latest art exhibit during the refreshments break.
